Reutimann Earns Top-10 Finish in No. 17 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota at Talladega Superspeedway

TALLADEGA, Ala. (October 9, 2006) – David Reutimann finished sixth behind the wheel of his No. 17 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota in the inaugural NASCAR Truck Series event at Talladega Superspeedway Saturday afternoon. In his first time racing at the 2.66-mile tri-oval before an estimated crowd of 80,000, Reutimann earned his 15th top-10 finish of the season and he maintained third-place in the championship points standings.

“I had so much fun racing at Talladega Superspeedway and I would come back next week if I could,” Reutimann said. “It was just incredible. The track is super fast and so smooth. We had a really good time and we had a great turnout by fans for the race. We're glad we had NAPA AUTO PARTS on board with us and we were happy to be able to represent during that race.”

Reutimann started 14th in the 94-lap event and moved into the top-10 within three laps. Not long after, Reutimann was fifth following a solid pit stop by his Darrell Waltrip Motorsports team at Lap 23 under caution. The third generation driver fought to hold onto his top-five position as he entered pit road under caution for fuel and a slight adjustment at Lap 43.

“The truck was awesome and my guys had a really good day in the pits,” Reutimann said. “We didn’t have to make any major changes.”

15 laps later under the fourth caution of the race, the team fueled the No. 17 NAPA AUTO PARTS to go the 250.04-mile distance. With about 34 laps remaining, Reutimann restarted 15th and reentered the top-five at Lap 66. Drifting inside and outside the top-five as laps dwindled, Reutimann was positioned in fourth-place on Lap 93. On the last lap, a multiple truck accident in Turn 3 brought out the yellow flag midway through the final lap. Reutimann crossed the start-finish line in sixth-place completing the 20th race of the season. The Florida native is 255 points out of first-place (Todd Bodine) and 142 points out of second place (Johnny Benson).

“We thought we might be able to gain some points on the leader,” Reutimann said. “Todd was penalized with less than 10 laps to go for his truck being below the yellow line. It's unfortunate and I hated to see he get jammed up like that. He still finished ahead of us. The races are winding down and we’ve got some good tracks ahead of us. We've got to make some things happen. We're running out of time.”

Next event, after a one week layoff, is the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway on October 21st.
